As many as I love, I rebuke and chasten: be zealous therefore, and repent.
I know it will probably come as a shock to most people that followers of Jesus would choose not to celebrate Christmas, especially since we are bombarded from an early age to believe that Christmas is Jesus's day of birth. If you've taken the time to read about the Feast of Tabernacles or about Jesus's day of birth on our site, then you probably already know that biblical evidence points to the fact that Jesus was actually born during the Feast of Tabernacles. So we choose to celebrate the Feast of Tabernacles as this was the when he was born. We choose not to celebrate Christmas because, for one, if it isn't Jesus's day of birth then what are we really celebrating? The truth is, that Christmas is actually the sun gods birthday. Yep, that's right, it's another pagan holiday masquerading as one of God's holidays.
Some believe that the early church claimed that day as Jesus's birthday to counter the pagan feast of Natalis Invicti or "Birth of the Unconquerable One". This Roman holiday was celebrated on December 25th in honor of the sun God's birthday. It also coincided with the Roman celebration of the winter solstice and Saturnalia in honor of the god Saturn. Even if their intentions were good and they wanted to overshadow a pagan god, all they really did was take that celebration and give it a new name because there was no biblical proof that Jesus was born December 25th. We believe that the real reason the early church declared this as Jesus's birthday was to appease their pagan neighbors.
Most people know that the early church had a habit of adapting the pagan holidays around them and trying to conform them to their new Christian beliefs. They did so to make the church more appealing to the pagan nations arounds them. However, God had a reason to warn his people about celebrating how the pagan celebrate and was very clear he didn't want his people celebrating other gods. That's because, just like with Christmas, the pagan traditions take over and the truth of God's word is tarnished by their traditions. Nearly everything used to celebrate Christmas has roots in paganism. Wreaths, Christmas trees, and even Santa and his eight reindeer. Did you know that you can read about Christmas trees in the Bible? Jeremiah ch. 10 describes Christmas trees and the wordage there depicts them as idols. Just like all the idols that men create who hear and speak and see not.
So if December 25th isn't when Jesus was born but the day that Romans' celebrated the birthday of one of their false gods, if every thing we use to celebrate Christmas is pagan, we can't in good conscience have anything to do with Christmas.
Jeremiah 10
1.Hear ye the word which the Lord speaketh unot you, O house of Israel:
2.Thus saith the LORD, Learn not the way of the heathen, and be not dismayed at the signs of heaven; for the heathen are dismayed at them.
3.For the customs of the people are vain: for one cutteth a tree out of the forest, the work of the hands of the workman, with the axe.
4.They deck it with silver and with gold; they fasten it with nails and with hammers, that it move not.
5.They are upright as the palm tree, but speak not: they must needs be borne, because they cannot go. Be not afraid of them; for they cannot do evil, neither also is it in them to do good.
